Apparently, nut butter is the new black. It’s everywhere! So yesterday when I was at the Fresh Market getting my little sushi lunch, I picked myself up some nut butter to see what all the hype was about.
Justin’s Maple Almond Butter, to be specific. I am a big fan of maple – as all good native New Englander’s are. I also really like almonds. Sounds like a win-win!
Imagine my surprise when I opened the jar and saw this?
Look at that oil?!! Please understand that I am not grossed out by it. I just don’t know what I’m supposed to do with it? Do you stir it into the almond butter or do you pour it off? Please let me know if you have an answer. I’m an almond butter newbie!!! I need instructions. By the way, I looked for instructions on the jar – nothing.
So I did scoop in there and taste the almond butter. It was good. I liked it. But to call this Maple? Not so sure about that. As I reminded you, I’m a New England girl. I KNOW my maple. No maple syrup in bottles shaped like middle-aged women for us. We like “shake it in your face” maple. I use Grade B maple syrup. It’s got a stronger maple flavor than Grade A. That said, I really didn’t taste maple in the almond butter. Sorry, Justin. That doesn’t mean I’m gonna throw the jar out.
Tomorrow I’m gonna try it on a pumpkin spice bagel (which I just found in the store today). I’m looking forward to it already.
